The effort to start Common Security Clubs emerged from work conducted by diverse groups of people concerned about rising consumer debt. As the economic crisis became more acute in the fall of 2008, we revamped our effort to develop a popular education and organizing resource for people facing economic insecurity.
The Common Security Club idea was created by a number of individuals and organizations. The initial institutional sponsors include the Program on Inequality and the Common Good, based at the Institute for Policy Studies, and On The Commons. Allied organizations include: The Movement Building Project, Working America, Center for Community Change, and JustFaith.
The core development team includes Alexa Bradley, Gerald Taylor, Kim Klein, Chuck Collins, Julie Ristau, Loie Hayes, Andrée Zaleska, Caroline McAndrews and several other educators and organizers from around the country.
